SUMMER BREAK FROM COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL IS ON THE HORIZON

That’s what it’s all about right…

We work hard all year and for couple or a few times a year we get away from it all.

This is one of my favorite posts, because I truly believe that the earlier you start your career/college search, the easier it is. Think about this…the more you understand what you like (and even what you don’t like), what you are good at and your own personality…your choice in careers comes easier. You realize certain things that you can do.

Take, for instance, the ability to draw, or write. Many of you do this as a hobby, or maybe out of boredom. Many of you know you’re good, but many of you may shrug it off, right? Do you ever consider just how creative you might be?

This might lead to a potential career in advertising, graphic design, marketing, fashion/interior design, or other creative-focused careers that are available.

Those of you in college or high school reading this might be thinking of the several weeks of no school.

Summer vacation…

Well enjoy your summertime when it gets here. Keep in mind the key to your own journey in choosing the types of careers and college that is the best fit for you. We all know that not everything works perfectly. But the more control you have on YOUR choices in life, through the decisions you make, the more successful those decisions you make will be.

These posts below are indeed critical in your journey. Prepare yourself for the summertime and take some of those “I’m sooo bored” moments and utilize them to take 30 minutes and quietly contemplate on your current interests and what you’re good at.

High school courses DO help…

Think about the classes that you have taken thus far in school. Which ones did you enjoy? Which ones did you excel in, and which ones did you find it pretty easy to accomplish?

Now, which ones sucked? Are there certain classes that if you could do it yourself, you would NEVER take?

Think about why that is…

Classes don’t stink merely because the teacher doesn’t like you, or is a bad teacher. Sure there are bad teachers out there. There are those that favor certain students. Believe me I see it everyday in my job as a college recruiter. But, the class might stink because that is just a skill you do not have. Don’t get me wrong here, you still have to take these classes because they are required for graduation.

But let this help you with your career choice inventory. Even more interesting, think about WHY you don’t like those courses, or get worse grades in them than others. WHY are you good in other classes? Why is it easier? Think clearly about this…are you more technical? visual? creative? talkative? an arguer? like to debate?
